Battling the Summer Fly Invasion

Every summer, like clockwork, our house becomes a battlefield swarmed by hundreds of flies. They slip past doors and windows, invading even the most guarded corners indoors. That’s when I reach for my trusty fly zapper (my weapon of choice) and imagine myself as a sword‑wielding anime hero. (Though I admit, “Fly Breathing Technique” doesn’t quite have the same ring as the ones in the anime.) Each swing of the racket‑like mesh delivers a satisfying crackle of electricity, punctuated by the unmistakable scent of singed fly flesh.

The most satisfying strike comes when they gather in formation along the edge of the sack of cat kibbles. With a swift motion from the hip, like drawing a katana in a lightning‑fast iaijutsu (the art of the quick draw and cut technique), I slice through their ranks. Before they even register the attack, they’re caught in the electrified mesh, bluish arcs sparking like miniature fireworks.

Of course, no warrior relies on a single weapon. My arsenal includes a rechargeable UV lamp that lures and zaps with quiet efficiency, and the unsung heroes of pest control: adhesive fly paper that comes in flat sheets and long, coiled strips. They may lack the drama of a crackling zapper, but when it comes to sheer effectiveness, these sticky traps are the true backbone of my summer campaign.
