Rainy Season Begins: Looking Back at a Scorching Summer

The local weather bureau officially announced last week the start of the rainy season in the Philippines. Fortunately, summer this year wasn’t too unbearable, though I was mainly concerned about the deep well drying up again, as it did last year. That, and the inconvenience of my air-conditioning unit breaking down for a few days last month. I remember the city’s social media pages issuing a formal notice last year, urging residents to refrain from watering their gardens - yes, it was that bad.

Coincidentally, I spent most of the summer searching for a pool where I could cool off and get some swimming in. Publicly accessible pools in Iloilo are scarce, but luckily, I found one in a nearby subdivision's clubhouse, where I happened to have a friend living. The entrance fee was quite reasonable at just 80 PhP per head.

The clubhouse boasts several amenities, including a covered tennis court, swimming pool, and function halls.

I might just make swimming a regular part of my routine. It reminds me of my time working in Batangas, where the clubhouse in the housing compound had a pool. I used to do laps twice a week after work, and I really miss that. I should be getting more exercise these days.
